Varicose veins can cause embarrassment in life not only hemodynamic disorder but also esthetic reasons, especially when unsighty veins are exposed in the women’s legs wearing shorts or swimming suits. The main traditional therapy has been the surgical obliteration or stripping of greater or lesser saphenous veins when the valvular insufficiencies are revealed by examinations. However the varicose veins are not painful and have a nature of slow progression, therefore many patients can not easily decide to receive operations. In Europe, the sclerotherapy has been applied since many decades ago with good cosmetic results, which can obliterate these veins by the simple injections of sclerosing solution into the vessel. And also this therapy was the most effective treatment modality when the reflux of vein are absent. Many different sclerosing solutions are available and we have used Fibrovein which is the safe and popular. We have experienced the sclerotherapy of ugly veins for esthetic purposes in 1,763 patients during 11 years. The patients were well satisfied with that results after sclerotherapy using Fibrovein . And we did not experienced any life threatening allergic reactions, or severe complication from sclerotherapy. Therefore sclerotherapy could be the choice of treatment method for the treatment of ugly veins in the leg. (J Korean Soc Phlebol 2006;5:29-35)
